What Are Antioxidants?
"Antioxidant" is a classification of several substances (all organic), including vitamins E and A (which is converted from beta-carotene), vitamin C, selenium (a mineral), and a group known as carotenoids. Carotenoids, of which beta- carotene is the most popular, is a pigment that give fruit and vegetables there color -- without them, tamatoes wouldn't be red. Antioxidants are thought to be effective in helping to prevent cancer, heart disease, stroke and many other health problems.
Through our life styles and diets our body's and cells encounter free radicals. These free radicals are the reason our cells breakdown and die. Antioxidants are natures answer to fight free radicals. If our bodies have a large ammount of antioxidants there are less free radicals and healthier cells.
