Mangosteen Science
The Mangosteen fruit or Garcinia Mangostana, as it's called in scientific community, has become the focus of numerous medical research over the past year. Everyone from, J Agric Food Chemical to the Asian Pac J Cancer Prevention society have published paper with the numerous health benefits of the Mangosteen fruit. I invite everyone to visit PubMed and search for “Mangosteen”. You will be surprised by the volumes of information.
To better understand the Mangosteen fruit and its health benefits we must first start in the beginning. Let's now take a look at the Asian Folk Lore surrounding the Mangosteen fruit.
Mangosteen Folk Lore
For hundreds of years the cultures of Southeast Asia have used the Mangosteen rind to craft poultices and brew medical tea for treating infection, eczema, skin disorders and inflammation. When Joe Morton first discovered the Mangosteen fruit he was over whelmed by the local medicine men and there claims about this miracle fruit. It was this folk lore that drove Joe to dig deeper into actual medical research. What he found was breathtaking...
Mangosteen is the single largest natural source of Xanthones on the planet!
Xanthones and Mangosteen
Xanthones are a photochemical (found in plants) family of antioxidants. There are over 200 known Xanthones in nature, but most of these are found in small microscopic organisms and various forms of wood. None of these would be very enjoyable to consume. The Mangosteen fruit has over 40 known Xanthones and more being discovered monthly. This makes Mangosteen the highest concentration of Xanthones in nature!

Mangosteen has the highest ORAC Values
A new test known as the Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity or ORAC has proven that a liter of XanGo has twenty to thirty times the absorption ability of free radicals than an equal portion of other fruits and vegetables. This test is one of the most accurate and best ways to measure the ability of antioxidants to absorb free radicals.
Brunswick Labs recently did a survey of ORAC values of common fruit and vegetables. In this test they found the following vegetables to contain the following ORAC values.
| Pea | | 29 |
 |
| Carrot | | 99 |
| White Cabbage | | 146 |
| Tomatoes | | 112 |
| Snap Bean | | 223 |
| White Onion | | 146 |
| Red Pepper | | 161 |
| Cauliflower | | 152 |
| Beet | | 165 |
| Broccoli | | 208 |
| Purple Onion | | 237 |
| Spinach | | 234 |
| Green Pepper | | 300 |
As you can see from the chart above that ORAC values of vegetables are rather low when compared to the 17,000+ ORAC value in one liter of XanGo. So now you have a choice you can either eat 3.5 lbs or green peppers or consume 1 liter of delicious XanGo. My choice was easy!
ORAC values my opinion -
The ORAC test is a not 100% scientific and should not be used solely in your XanGo decision. XanGo has been proven to be very high in ORAC value compared to other fruits and vegetables, but to this date there has been no ORAC tests preformed on the whole Mangosteen fruit, and not tests that were done in controlled environments comparing the vegetables above directly to XanGo. Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to get facts and not a sales pitch. You will find in your research of XanGo many distributors and other individuals that claim this information as fact. That is simply not true, don't be mislead. As always email me if you have any questions at all.
